Actor Philipp Hochmair received the Kitzbühel Film Festival's Honorary 'Gams Trophy' and a special diamond ring from Austrian jeweler Hügler

Twelve years ago, the first film festival was held in Kitzbühel, Tyrol. The festival's Gams Trophy features Kitzbühel's signature chamois motif, familiar to sports enthusiasts from the Hahnenkamm ski races. In addition to the main categories, the Gams is awarded annually to an honorary prize winner. The Gams Trophy for the honorary winner is an abstract design featuring the silhouette of the distinctive 'Gams' or chamois, a species of goat antelope native to the mountainous regions of Europe, including the Alps where Kitzbühel is located. The honorary award winner receives as part of the prize a special diamond ring from the festival's sponsor, Austrian jeweler Hügler. Last year's 2023 recipient was Austrian actress Aglaia Szyszkowitz, known for the quality of her acting in film and television productions. Previous honorary award winners include Heiner Lauterbach (2022), Felix Mitterer (2021), Veronica Ferres (2020), Helmut Berger (2019), Marie Bäumer (2018) and Joseph Vilsmaier (2017).

At the twelfth Kitzbühel Film Festival, acclaimed actor Philipp Hochmair was honored with the prestigious Gams Trophy for his outstanding acting achievements. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the specially designed 18-carat gold ring by Franziskus Kriegs-Au, managing director of jeweler Julius Hügler. Franziskus Kriegs-Au - himself a TV personality as jewelry expert in the show 'Bares für Rares' on Servus TV (https://www.huegler.at/bares-fuer-rares/) - is a member of the fifth generation of the family business, which was founded in 1875 in Vienna by Julius Hügler, who in 1899 became the Imperial and Royal Court Jeweler of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

The ring, donated by Hügler as one of the sponsors of the Kitzbühel Film Festival, which is supported by the Austrian Ministry for Art and Culture, among others, is adorned with a pre-1920s old-cut diamond weighing over one carat. Philipp Hochmair is currently the shooting star of the Austrian film, television and theater scene, and not only because of his performance in 'Jedermann' at the ongoing Salzburg Festival. It seems that not a week goes by without a movie or TV series starring him being broadcast on television. The next premiere on the Austrian public TV station ORF has already been announced: on September 7, the alpine crime thriller 'Der Geier' (The Vulture) will make its debut on ORF 2 and ORF ON.

The winners of the Gams Trophy 2024 in the main categories are:
Best Feature Film: 'The Strangers Case' by Brandt Andersen
Best Documentary: 'Where we used to sleep' by Matthäus Wörle
Best Short Film: 'Diamond Beauty' by Anna Korom
Best Mountain Sports Shorts: 'That's Home' by Johannes Hoffmann
Austrian Newcomer Award: 'Die Sänger' by Fabian Rausch and Zoran Berghammer
Audience Award': 'America' by Ofir Raul Graizer
