Directory of awarded architecture throughout Vienna such the renovation, renewal of the flagship store of the glass and chandelier manufacturer Lobmeyr

Opera fans in New York are likely to be familiar with Lobmeyr chandeliers from the auditorium and foyer of the Metropolitan Opera (https://www.lobmeyr.at/stories/the-metropolitan-opera/); design and art enthusiasts from Vienna to Tokyo have probably already seen the lanterns designed in collaboration with the artist Eva Petric (https://www.lobmeyr.at/lighting/teleshadowportation/). The list of collaborations and distinctive locations around the world where Lobmeyr glass can be found goes on and on. Now the Austrian crystal glass specialist has received an award from the City of Vienna, Department of Urban Planning, for the renovation and renewal of the company's flagship store in Vienna's first district.

In Vienna, the city's historical heritage and people's demands for contemporary living, working and meeting spaces, including retail spaces, benefit from a constantly evolving process of inspiration and innovation. One example of this is the flagship store of glass and chandelier manufacturer J. & L. Lobmeyr in the first district of the city, which was awarded a prize by the city's department with responsibility for architecture and urban design. Lobmeyr was founded in 1823. The retail space breathes the luxurious times of the so-called Wiener Gründerzeit (since 1848), which left its architectural traces as an important period for the urban development of the city. (More about the Gründerzeit is published on https://www.geschichtewiki.wien.gv.at/Gründerzeit). This legacy was one of the aspects for the jury that selected more than 25 projects, ranging from completely new modern architecture to renovations of 19th century buildings, for the 'built 2023' architecture award. The projects can be viewed online on https://www.wien.gv.at/stadtplanung/ausstellung-gebaut-projekte-2023 with project descriptions, including the idea behind the architecture, the process of creation, and the benefits for people.

The restoration of the J. & L. Lobmeyr flagship store on Kärntnerstrasse by Hubmann Vass Architects has been awarded the 'built 2023' prize by the City of Vienna for its outstanding achievement in preserving historic architecture while developing contemporary retail space, as explained in the directory of awarded architecture.
