16 October 2024 ![]() Even if the upcoming time is mostly seen as quiet and contemplative, it's also the most 'event'ful of the year: Halloween on October 31, which was added to the Austrian calendar more than a decade ago, is now one of the country's most important party nights, followed by the contemplative All Saints' Day on November 1 and All Souls' Day on November 2 - both used to visit the graves of family and friends. Or the annual 'Krapfenessen' (doughnut eating) to mark the beginning of 'Fasching' (name for carnival in Austria) on November 11, the start of the traditional winter and Christmas markets throughout the country, many of which fall on November 15 in Vienna this year, not to mention all the Christmas and New Year's celebrations with business partners, friends and family that are already in the planning stages. Some of the dates of the more special fashion, design and art events have already been sent out. One that promises to be a highlight in Vienna will take place in the entrance area of one of the city's major hotels. SO/ Vienna is known for combining fashion and design with luxury hotel experiences. Recently, Fashion.at attended the presentation of one of the outfit partners of the Olympic Team Austria for the Winter Olympics 2026 (article). Yesterday, SO/ Vienna announced the launch of a digital art experience that will showcase a fusion of fashion, design and technology from November 22, 2024. Located in the lobby of the hotel, the project uses augmented reality to create an interactive, transmedia, holiday-themed display that blends contemporary lifestyle with Christmas magic. Created by Artefact Mixed Reality Studio, with decorations by Blumenkraft Wien, the display features futuristic 3D printed designs by Julia Koerner (JK3D) and Marie Boltenstern, offering a modern take on holiday gifts. The hotel's commitment to design is evident in its unique architecture by Jean Nouvel and interior artwork by Pipilotti Rist, adding vibrancy to Vienna's traditional cityscape. In addition, the Alpha Tauri pop-up store offers a high-tech fashion experience complementing the immersive digital exhibition. Artists Julia Koerner, known for her 3D printed fashion collaborations, and Marie Boltenstern, a pioneer in 3D printed jewelry, bring their expertise to the project. Artefact Mixed Reality Studio, which specializes in innovative technology and design, orchestrates the digital installation, bridging the physical and virtual worlds.
