20 September 2024
The fifth edition of 'Art Vienna', an international fair for contemporary art, classic modernism and design, opened today, September 20, at the Schönbrunn Orangery in Vienna and runs through the weekend until September 22. This year's fair features works by renowned artists such as Herbert Brandl, Hubert Schmalix and Erwin Wurm. The exhibition spans a variety of media, including painting, photography, and sculpture. A highlight of the event is the transformation of the garden of the Orangery into a temporary sculpture park, with works by artists such as Bruno Gironcoli and Elisabeth von Samsonow. The special exhibition 'F', curated by Dr. Ema Kaiser, focuses on contemporary feminist art and features fourteen young artists. A special highlight of the fair are the 'Heritage Artists' presented by the magazine 'Schlossseiten' (https://magazin.schlossseiten.at/), experts on living and lifestyle in Austrian castles, including Marina Blanca, Clara Khevenhüller and Jamie McGregor, who combine historical themes with modern artistic approaches. Marina Blanca stands out for her colorful, hand-blown Murano glass lamps and cast bronze portraits. Clara Khevenhüller, a Spanish-Austrian artist who studied at Parsons Paris and lives in Vienna, presents her multidisciplinary work in sculpture, painting, and new media. British photographer Jamie McGregor Smith offers a unique perspective with his documentation of 20th century modern church architecture. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to interact directly with the artists. On Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 11 a.m., the magazine Schlossseiten invites visitors to a special breakfast with coffee and croissants in the Orangerie. The Schlossseiten curator's talk with Lucas Cuturi will be moderated by Christoph Thun-Hohenstein. Cuturi will talk about his experiences curating Ai Weiwei's 'Transcending Borders' exhibition in the Salzkammergut and explore the challenges and opportunities of bringing world-renowned art to a regional setting, as announced on https://www.artvienna.org/besucher/rahmenprogramm-2024/heritage-artists/.
