6 August 2024 The 'Flinserl'-outfit, a carnival costume from the Ausseerland (Styria) in the Salzkammergut region, is one of the highlights that Fashion.at saw on its tour through the new virtual museum, which was launched yesterday, August 5th. The artifact is exhibited in the 'Cultural History' hall of the virtual space, which can be explored with an avatar. When entering Salzzeit.at, the user can choose between German and English. The six themed rooms, including the aforementioned Cultural History, focus on life and work in the region, whose name 'Salzkammergut' refers to its rich salt deposits. Another hall is called 'Ecology', which presents the mountain region from a geological point of view since prehistoric times, including a timeline function showing the transformation of the Hallstatt glacier on the Dachstein, which will increasingly disappear until 2100. The 'Salt' room delves into the 7,000-year history of salt mining in the region and its impact on culture and economy. Other rooms deal with the 'Transport of Salt' and the 'Woodwork' - required for the transport - with material from the tree-rich area. In addition to the thematic rooms, there is a space that gives insights into the 36 museums that have contributed artifacts and knowledge about them to the project, such as the 'Flinserl', which got its name from the glittering sequins. According to Salzzeit.at, the costume came to the Salzkammergut region of Styria in the 18th century with guest workers from Venice. The Flinserl can be viewed as a 3D object. It's one of 107 3D objects in the museum. Salzzeit is equipped with 42 films, such as witnesses' reports on the Ebensee concentration camp, numerous representations of works of art, photos, spherical panoramas for exploring the geography, and about 250 pieces of text information. It's announced that the virtual museum will be hosted by the Natural History Museum Vienna for the next ten years and its content will be developed and expanded step by step. The information on Salzzeit.at is intended for residents as well as tourists and school classes. Admission to the virtual museum is free. The miner's uniform in the picture dates from the 18th century. The accompanying text introduces the history of the outfit, which became a festive uniform worn on holidays such as December 4, the day of the patron saint of miners, Saint Barbara. It's possible to zoom in for a closer look and to walk around the figure. Photo: © Scenomedia, courtesy Kulturhauptstadt Europas Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024. |
