Where to go in Vienna? To find destinations, the ivie app - with about one million downloads since 2020 - is very likely a good source.

The first time Fashion.at mentioned the 'ivie' app was on the occasion of Pride Month 2022 (article), when the Vienna Tourist Board offered a special discovery tour under the motto 'Through Vienna on the Rainbow'. Over the next two years, the app continued to grow, both in terms of content and users. At the beginning of 2024, the digital city guide, which won gold at the iab webAd 2021 Awards by iab Austria in the category 'Best Website, App & E-Commerce', has reached almost one million downloads since its launch in 2020. The app is designed with practical navigation to old and new sights and insider tips, making it worthwhile for Viennese to download the app as well.

The 'Walks & Guides' section is the heart of the app, featuring walks and map-based location selections under titles such as 'Curious Museum Guide', 'City of Vision' and the aforementioned 'LGBT Guide'. Last year, the 'World's Fair 1873 Guide' to places related to the World's Fair was added to the app, along with a contest where users could earn points by visiting the locations and answering questions with a check-in that worked through the app (details are published at https://www.wien.info/en/travel-info/ivie-app).

It's announced that last year's successful launch of a new guide, accompanied by a competition, will be continued in 2024 under the title 'Heartbeat Streets'. This time, users will be encouraged to explore the neighborhoods - called 'Grätzel' in Viennese - beyond the city center. Eleven neighborhoods have been selected, such as the Servitenviertel in the 9th district, nicknamed 'Little Paris' for its French flair, gastronomy and 'bon vivre' lifestyle, or the 'cool and kosher' Karmeliterviertel in the 2nd district, home to a lively Jewish community. Viennese grätzel (neighborhoods) are the heartbeat of Vienna's metropolitan lifestyle and offer visitors a more authentic experience of the city off the usual tourist paths. Details about the launch date of the Heartbeat Streets Guide or which bars, restaurants or shops will be featured have not yet been announced.
