3 May 2025 ![]() Vienna, May 16-18, 2025 - Independent Publishing at the SemperdepotThe Fanzineist Vienna Art Book & Zine Fair returns to the historic Atelierhaus der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien (Semperdepot, free admission) from May 16 to 18, 2025. However, a preview of what visitors can expect this year is already online.The fair promises a dynamic lineup of concerts, talks, and workshops. Musicians performing include Elektro Hafiz, Tutti Dilemma, Wiener Planquadrat, Alexander Zaloopin, La Washa, TJ Tall, Arda Yildiz, Everyday I am Evi`ing, Winamp Power, and THAO. Workshops range from "Bookbinding" with Anna Frey to "In Zines We Trust" by Deniz Beser, whose workshop title already hints at his deep connection with the medium. Another hands-on session will be hosted by Anna-Maria Wolf and Nicole Tanneberger, focusing on collage techniques. Deniz Beser: Artist, Curator, and Founder of FanzineistInitiated by Deniz Beser, Fanzineist is much more than a fair – it is a curated space for artistic exchange, activism, and creative freedom. Beser, who is based in Vienna and Istanbul, is known for his multidisciplinary art practice and his dedication to analog culture. A graduate of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul and the University of Seville in Spain, Beser also runs Analog Dialog, the non-profit platform behind the fair.Since its inception, Fanzineist has become a cultural hub where independent voices are amplified. Every year, the event uncovers hidden gems from the global underground scene and presents them to a broad, curious audience. These treasures include everything from niche comic zines and DIY literature to experimental design publications. Over 30 Countries, a Queer Zone, and an Online PresenceThis year, around 175 exhibitors from over 30 countries have been announced. These include contributors from Argentina, China, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, Iran, and many more. A particular highlight of the fair is the Queer Zone, a dedicated section spotlighting LGBTQIA+ publications and voices.The online exhibition includes about 25 publishers who will present their work virtually via fanzineist.com. This digital component ensures that even those who can't attend in person have access to the fair's diversity.
