21 September 2025 ![]() With the new season arriving, Vienna's retail scene is settling into its autumn rhythm. Shops now present not only clothing and shoe collections for colder days, but also objects that reshape interiors into warm, inviting spaces where nature finds its place indoors. In the latest collaborative presentation by Vitra and Calienna, furniture and plants stand side by side as part of a contemporary lifestyle. As daily life becomes increasingly digital, many seek balance — and nature gains new value, no longer confined to the outdoors. This shift is more than aesthetic. Growing awareness of air quality and well-being has turned greenery into an essential companion for modern living. While a sofa might offer comfort and relaxation, plants provide something deeper: they filter the air, soften the atmosphere, and make spaces feel alive. It is a way of living that breathes — home becomes a place where design and nature meet, creating an environment that restores, inspires, and feels alive. Greenhaus in Neubaugasse – where design and plants meetFrom 19 September to 24 October 2025, Vienna welcomes Greenhaus, a temporary project by Vitra and Calienna. It is staged on the upper floor of Calienna (Calienna is a portmanteau of California and Vienna) in Neubaugasse 68, at the heart of one of Vienna's most creative districts. Neubaugasse is known for its mix of independent shops, cafés, and studios, shaped by a population that both lives and works in the area. The Greenhaus project merges two worlds: iconic furniture design and the living presence of plants. Vitra, the internationally renowned design company, is known for collaborations with leading designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, and more recently Panter&Tourron. At Greenhaus, pieces like the Anagram Sofa, the Slow Chairs by the Bouroullecs, and design classics by the Eames duo are on view. Calienna – design through plants, coffee, and cultureThe interior design is shaped by Calienna, a Vienna-based creative space founded by Miri (from Tyrol, Austria) and Christian (from Southern California) Cervantes. Known for bringing greenery into high-profile projects such as Louis Vuitton and Gucci in Vienna, Calienna balances sculptural plants with a contemporary sense of harmony. Their concept combines a plant store, café, design studio, and gallery. It is a place where visitors pause for specialty coffee, discover bold plant arrangements, or attend cultural events. The collaboration with Vitra transforms Calienna's upper floor into a greenhouse of design. Visitors are invited not only to look but to sit, breathe, and experience the furniture within this plant-filled environment. It is a temporary living room for Vienna — one where nature and design coexist in everyday life.
