Spotlight on Kitzbühel: Film Glamour Meets Alpine Lifestyle

Red Carpet in the Snow

When the Romy Awards move from Vienna to Kitzbühel this November, the alpine town famous for ski glamour and luxury boutiques adds a new sparkle to its winter season. The film and television prize—named after Romy Schneider and organised by the Austrian newspaper Kurier since 1990—will be presented at Schloss Kaps on 28 November 2025, marking the first time the Romy steps into the Alps. The public broadcaster ORF is the cooperation partner of the Romy Awards.

The event aligns with the Filmfestival Kitzbühel (25–30 November), which turns the town into a creative hub for directors, actors, and audiences. Founded in 2013, the festival has become one of Austria's leading platforms for emerging cinema. The handmade Gams trophy, forged from local Hahnenkamm stone and gilded in gold, symbolises the blend of craft and aspiration that defines the region.

Lights, Style, and Snowflakes

This year, Kitzbühel isn't just rolling out red carpets—it's reinventing its winter scene. The ski opening at the Hahnenkamm on 22 November sets the rhythm for a season filled with film, shopping, and festive lights. The newly opened Hermès boutique in the historic Vorderstadt adds Parisian elegance to the mountain air, joining other luxury and design stores that make Kitzbühel a magnet for style-conscious visitors.

As locals and tourists stroll past decorated shopfronts, the town feels like a movie set where alpine tradition meets cosmopolitan flair. The upcoming Advent market (19 November–28 December), with its handmade gifts, mulled wine, and music, adds another scene to this living film.

Even Austria's Oscar 2026 submission and Romy-nominated film "The Peacock" connects thematically with the setting—reflecting on identity, vanity, and self-image. These ideas resonate in Kitzbühel, where authenticity and allure walk hand in hand, from the slopes to the shop windows.

Tradition in a New Frame

Hosting both the Romy Awards and the Filmfestival Kitzbühel signals a broader cultural shift: Austrian cinema is expanding beyond the capital to embrace the landscape that shapes its identity. For Kitzbühel, it's another step in a long story of transformation—from a Tyrolean village to a global lifestyle destination where art, sport, and style coexist. When the stars arrive this November, the town will once again prove that glamour and mountain spirit aren't contradictions but companions.
