Where Garden Design Meets Contemporary Living

Vienna's garden culture has gained a new destination. In the former Kattus wine cellar building at Silbergasse 52 in Vienna's 19th district, Ortmann Garten recently celebrated its first anniversary together with two further milestones: ten years of the interior design and lifestyle business O'Style Living and 100 years of the Ortmann family's horticultural tradition in Döbling. The anniversary gathering brought together guests from Vienna’s cultural, media and business circles. Impressions shared in a video on the company's Instagram channel document the atmosphere of the event.

The location reflects a broader trend in urban living. Gardens are increasingly viewed not only as green spaces but also as outdoor living rooms where design, recreation and nature interact. Visitors find plants, garden accessories, outdoor furniture and consultation services for private gardens, terraces and outdoor spaces.

The Rise of Ecological Gardens

One of the most visible developments in contemporary garden design is the growing interest in ecological gardens. At Ortmann Garten, this approach avoids pesticides, herbicides, synthetic fertilisers and peat while focusing on sustainable plant communities, native species, flower meadows and wildlife-friendly planting concepts. Such gardens can create habitats for pollinators including bees and butterflies while supporting biodiversity in urban environments.

The trend reflects changing attitudes toward private outdoor spaces. Instead of highly controlled landscapes, many homeowners are looking for gardens that work with natural processes. The result is often a more dynamic environment where seasonal change becomes part of the design experience.

Natural Pools as an Alternative to Conventional Swimming Pools

Another growing trend is the integration of water into garden concepts. Ortmann Garten offers the planning of natural pools and swimming ponds as part of larger landscape projects. Depending on the system, water quality is maintained through biological processes and filtration methods rather than relying primarily on chlorine-based treatment.

Natural pools have become increasingly popular because they combine the visual appeal of a pond with the functionality of a swimming pool. Designers often integrate them into planting schemes and landscape architecture to create a more natural overall appearance. In many cases, the water feature becomes the central element around which the garden is organised.

A Showroom Reflecting Outdoor Living Trends

The Silbergasse showroom also serves as a display space for current outdoor living concepts. Among the brands presented are outdoor furniture by Cane-line and Riviera Maison, Ralph Lauren Home accessories, Atelier Vierkant planters, Cubic outdoor kitchens and lighting from Les Jardins Aix-en-Provence. The location combines product presentation with consultation for garden planning and landscape projects.

For trend watchers, the venue offers an insight into how garden design is evolving in Vienna. The focus is increasingly on holistic concepts in which planting, water, materials, lighting and outdoor furnishings are considered as part of one connected environment. In this sense, the garden becomes more than a decorative addition to a home. It becomes a creative space where nature, design and everyday life can be shaped together.
