Omoda's parent company, Chery Automobile, unveiled Mornine, an AI-equipped walking robot for retail services and family care with a focus on emotional expression

Chery Automobile, headquartered in Wuhu (China), made waves in Europe last year when it announced that its Omoda brand - O stands for oxygen, moda for modern, referring to a sustainable and fashionable lifestyle - would be launching new cars in Europe. On the Austrian market, the fully electric Omoda 5 EV will be available as a counterpart to the petrol version Omoda 5. This week, the latest news from Chery Automobile, one of China's largest automobile exporters, arrived at Fashion.at. This time it was about the robot Mornine, which is equipped with AI based on a large language model, which enables it to communicate. Over the next three years, the robot will be introduced to the retail market, first as a content expert and then as a comprehensive sales and purchasing advisor, from answering customer questions to finding and delivering products. Finally, the robot will serve as a family companion and caregiver for the elderly. The preview on the company's Instagram shows a very feminine robot in action in a campaign video as a nanny for children or a nurse for the elderly.

The face is made with bionic silicone - a material inspired by biological systems - to express emotion. In the press release, Mornine's bionic materials and mechanisms are compared to Boston Dynamics' robots, which use pneumatic technology to move, and Tesla's robots. In particular, the release highlights Mornine's suitability for interactive service functions in various environments beyond industrial applications.

The product development roadmap for Mornine is that it will first serve as an intelligent retail service expert. Later, it will evolve into an intelligent family companion, demonstrating its versatility and adaptability in different contexts. Mornine was presented at the Auto China Beijing 2024; a video from the presentation is published on Chery Automobile's Instagram.
