woom: A Pioneer in Child and Youth Bicycles

Founded in 2013 in Vienna by two cycling enthusiasts and fathers, woom has grown from a garage startup into a globally recognized brand for high-quality children's and youth bicycles. Designed specifically to meet the needs of young riders, woom bikes are known for their lightweight frames, ergonomic geometry, and child-friendly components. Today, woom products are available in over 40 countries, making the brand a leading innovator in kids' cycling.

The Significance of the iF Design Award

Established in 1953, the iF Design Award is one of the world's most prestigious design competitions. Recognized for setting high standards in form, function, and innovation, the award evaluates thousands of submissions annually. In 2025, nearly 11,000 entries from 66 countries were submitted, with only 75 receiving the coveted iF Gold Award—less than one percent. Among these select few was woom's READY helmet, marking the company's first iF Gold recognition.

Why the Jury Chose woom's READY Helmet and EXPLORE Bike

The READY helmet earned the jury's highest praise for its safety-first approach and intelligent design. According to the iF Gold Statement, its enhanced safety features, smart material choices, and child-friendly—but not childish—styling stood out. The jury highlighted the click-in rear light and climbing-cord strap as standout features, praising the helmet as a holistic and playful yet mature product.

Meanwhile, the woom EXPLORE bike impressed jurors with its age-specific geometry, matte finishes, and contemporary graphic updates. The design reflects the needs of older children and teens while maintaining the brand's signature quality and usability. Its bold mix of refined components and cool aesthetics resonated with the jury's focus on innovation and functionality.

A Strong Design Track Record and More Honors

Beyond the iF Gold Award, the READY helmet also received the Red Dot Award 2025, and the German Innovation Award 2025. The woom EXPLORE bike matched this success with four international design honors:

• iF Design Award
• Red Dot Award
• German Design Award
• German Innovation Award

woom's design excellence has been acknowledged multiple times at the iF Design Awards over the years. Past award-winning products include:

• woom OFF AIR Bicycle (2023)
• woom 2 Kid's Bicycle (2016)
• Worn to be Wild Adventure Jacket (2019)

Given this history and the brand's ongoing innovation, it seems likely that this year's success won't be its last. As woom continues to invest in user-centered design for young cyclists, more accolades are expected to follow.
