Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960 - 1988) is strongly associated with the 80s New York music and art scene and the communication of social topics through art works developed from word raps from music (hip-hop), cartoon stories, and street art. Music appears explicitly as reference in several exhibited works. Basquiat owned more than 3,000 records, was a DJ and produced his own album.
