Today's release of 'The Devil Wears Prada 2: Music From The Motion Picture' coincides with the film's premiere, bringing together a cross-section of contemporary pop. Among the original contributions is "Material Lover," written and performed by rising British artist Sienna Spiro specifically for the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada 2.

A new voice within a familiar narrative

Spiro, who has gained attention through recent chart entries and live performances, contributes one of the soundtrack's exclusive tracks. "Material Lover" was conceived directly for the film, aligning its themes with the fashion-driven storyline. The accompanying video was co-directed by the artist and Ivy Tellin, and filmed at Electric Lady Studios in New York City — a location historically associated with music production and creative experimentation.

Between surface and substance

Lyrically, "Material Lover" moves between attraction to material objects and the desire for emotional authenticity. Lines that juxtapose consumption with "real connection" suggest an ambivalence rather than a straightforward celebration of luxury. The repetition of the phrase "they can't do it like me" introduces a tone of self-assertion, while references to touch, texture and appearance echo the film's focus on fashion as both image and identity.

Rather than rejecting superficiality, the song frames it as part of a broader search for meaning — a perspective that resonates with contemporary discussions around aesthetics, value and self-representation.

A soundtrack shaped by pop visibility

The 13-track album, released via Interscope Records, combines exclusive songs with established artists across pop and R&B. Alongside Spiro, contributors include Lady Gaga, Doechii, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, SZA and Laufey, among others.

Prior to the album's release, "Runway" by Lady Gaga and Doechii had already established itself as a widely circulated track, reaching top chart positions and shaping early expectations for the soundtrack. Its high-energy production contrasts with the more introspective tone of "Material Lover," highlighting the range of musical approaches within the project.

Context within a fashion-driven film

Set against the backdrop of the fictional Runway magazine, the film revisits characters introduced in the 2006 original while introducing a new generation of industry figures. Music plays a central role in reinforcing its aesthetic framework, where fashion, media and identity intersect.

Within this context, "Material Lover" functions less as a standalone pop statement and more as a narrative extension — reflecting on the tension between external appearance and internal experience that continues to define the story's cultural relevance.
