Exhibition of facts and fiction about the historical person Graf Ladislaus Almásy, known from the movie 'The English Patient'

The historical person Austro-Hungarian Graf Ladislaus Almásy is known from the movie 'The English Patient' (1996) with Ralph Fiennes, Juliette Binoche and Willem Dafoe in the main roles. The movie was awarded with 9 Oscars; one of the Oscars was for Best Costume Design by Ann Roth! 'The English Patient' tells the story of a plane crash victim who lost his memories (Ralph Fiennes).

From 22 June to 11 November 2012, the Landesmuseum Burgenland exhibits facts (such as the documents 'Secret Operation Salam' from World War II) about the adventurer, car and aviaton pioneer, motor engineer and spy Ladislaus Eduard von Almásy and fictional views (literature, film) on the Austro-Hungarian under the title 'Swimmer of the Desert'. The name of the exhibition is derived from the prehistoric cave paintings of swimmers which were discovered by Almásy on the trail of the 'Stories of 1001 Nights'. The exhibition texts are translated into German, English, and Hungarian.
