steirischer herbst'19 will start its 'Opening Extravaganza' with a performance by Cibelle Cavalli Bastos addressing topics like ecological crisis or femmephobia

'Extravaganza' is the title of this year's opening event of the Austrian in Graz, Styria headquartered culture festival 'steirischer herbst' which focuses since it was founded 1968 on the critical exploration of society. For the festival happening from 19 September until 13 October, the curators under the direction of Ekaterina Degot have chosen for the core program the title 'Grand Hotel Abyss' (article) and artistic projects that throw light on themes like social inequality or the country’s history by looking into times of Cold War such as with the ‘Lost Cold War Spies’ installations by Nedko Solakov

The 'Opening Extravaganza' is inspired by a masquerade or masked ball where class differences disappear. Extravaganza will be celebrated with performances and installations by various artists. At the announcement, the first mentioned artistic project is a performance by Cibelle Cavalli Bastos who addresses in her cisgender (opposite of transgender) role with a fictional story playing in a future when earth is uninhabitable and left by the rich, topics like femmephobia, ecological crisis or gentrification.
