These treasures will make you wonder! Exploration of the treasure chamber of Forchtenstein Castle in Burgenland, Austria

So when Fashon.at went on an excursion to Forchtenstein Castle in Burgenland, Austria's easternmost federal state, yesterday, a guided tour of the treasure chamber, original rooms of art and wonder from the 17th century, was a must. The chambers were once initiated by Paul I, Prince Esterházy of Galántha in 1692. Fashion.at save-the-date tip for exploring contemporary design from Austria: 'AUT NOW' at the MAK – Museum of Applied Arts Vienna will open in a few days

How to describe Austrian design ad hoc? If Fashion.at had to summarize the essence of Austrian design in a few words, immediately, without thinking long, the answer would be: Puristic, where decoration becomes functional, practical with a focus on easy use, and humorous as the spice of the pragmatic soup composed of traditions and innovations, such as the serving plate for sausages 'Wiener Frankfurter' by the Vienna-based design duo Kim+Heep, or the 'Bong' by the Austrian company Gmundner Keramik, made of the traditional green flamed ceramics...

The Olympic Games are not over yet! The Paris 2024 Paralympics take place from August 28 to September 8. Some may believe that inclusion should look different and that the tradition of holding Para-athlete competitions separately from the actual Olympic Games is outdated. For example, the Austrian teams at the Olympic and Paralympic Games have been presenting their equipment together since Beijing 2008. It's more than just a fashion show - it's a statement for inclusion in sports. Austria is happy about every medal of every athlete! And since yesterday Austria has one more. Hannah Philomena Scheiber's upcoming exhibition 'Ultra Mare' is an ultramarine blue and yellow homage to the Tyrolean Ötztal Alps and a commentary on the fragility of nature

In the upcoming exhibition at the Bank Austria Kunstforum in Vienna, visitors are invited to explore the fragile and ephemeral nature of the environment by immersing themselves in an Alpine landscape rendered in the evocative color blue. The title 'Ultra Mare,' which translates as 'beyond the sea' or 'ultramarine,' refers to both the distant origin of the pigment and the vastness of the landscapes it depicts. In Scheiber's work, blue is more than a color; it is a representation of the divine, the feminine, and the fragile beauty of nature, making her art a poignant commentary on environmental and spiritual interconnectedness...

Fashion.at travelog: Empress Elisabeth's bachelorette dress with Arabic lettering is one of the highlights of the Imperial Weddings exhibition at Prince Eugen's former hunting lodge, Schloss Niederweiden

Fashion.at is an annual visitor to Schloss Hof and Schloss Niederweiden in Lower Austria. Today, they are part of the Schönbrunn Group of estates, named after the largest and most profitable. Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, a magnificent building in the style of Versailles, is a tourist magnet. Schloss Niederweiden, Prince Eugen's hunting lodge, is almost down-to-earth compared to the prominent palace in Vienna. Niederweiden is not overrun by tourists. Not all of the wasteful projects selected for Greenpeace's voting '9 Concrete Treasures in Austria' look ugly; in some cases, a small change in the use of valuable land could turn them into beauties

It's not easy to decide which of the five ugly places in each of Austria's nine federal states should get a vote for Greenpeace's 'Austria's 9 Concrete Treasures'. Especially since not all projects are ugly. Some projects are definitely ugly such as the Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna, which can heat up to almost 50 degrees Celsius due to the concrete covering of a relatively large area that used to be less extensive with more open green and flower fields. But there are also projects that don't look ugly and where a small change can make all the difference...

The Austrian Youth Monitor study shows that despite social inequalities, the negative effects of inflation have one thing in common among young people: restricted leisure activities

Money rules the world, and even in Austria, a country committed to social justice, the young population (16-29 years old) is divided when it comes to opportunities for a good life, access to education and actively designing the future. The latest study of the Chamber for Workers and Employees shows that even if the young population is increasingly divided, there is one negative impact that even the wealthier have experienced in recent months. Overall, the most widespread impact is on leisure time: 59% of young people have had to cut back on going out, paying for leisure activities and/or vacations in the last twelve months. One of the questions in the survey was about fashion...

Fashion.at's walk through the Parallel Sculpture Park in Gmunden and talk with artist, jewelry designer, perfume maker Eva Petric about her work 'DataBank@futureGARDEN'

Yesterday, Fashion.at visited the Parallel Sculpture Park in Gmunden a few hours before its official opening and walked through the Toscana Park on the peninsula at Lake Traunsee, where sculptures by around 45 artists have been placed in expected and unexpected places, such as trees, until the end of August. In a conversation with artist Eva Petric about her triptychon-like sculpture 'DataBank@futureGARDEN', Fashion.at got the impression that the sculpture makes the visitor aware of the information we all carry within us. Eva Petric introduced 'Earth for Empathy' - one part of the sculpture - as resembling the musical instrument xylophone - which doesn't make any sound in this artwork, but visually enhances the silence of nature, which is always there even when we can't hear or see it, like a light wind. When the wind moves the panels, the silent song of the environment begins to play. All we have to do is listen...

The speech was appropriately formal and well thought out for the final semester of students, until it was suddenly interrupted by a political statement, complete with hissing of a flag, throwing of flyers, and a loudly read but acoustically incomprehensible proclamation.
