Insight into the Viennese book fair 'Buch Wien 19': From studies about digital media & democracy to handbags

Yesterday, Fashion.at visited the book fair 'Buch Wien 19' at Messe Wien. Until 10th November, a wide range of literature from children's books, Sci-fi to scientific studies such as 'Changing Media - Changing Democracy? Medienwandel - Wandel der Demokratie?' from a series with views on legal and economic issues affected by new technologies, published by the Austrian Academy of Sciences, can be comfortably read - and bought. Among the booths, visitors will find stages where authors present their new releases respectively speak about topics such as on this day at one stage about the positive effects of reading on the development of children and adolescents or at another stage a cookie performance happened on occasion of a new cook book. Fashion.at followed the explanations of how to make cookies; the sweet bakery was later handed out for testing.

Since 2013, ANA chron. designs book bags consisting of leather and covers of old books. The covers are made durable by a coating of acrylic lacquer and wax before they are joined with leather for bags. Handbags (image right), backpacks (photo below), or covers for note books and calendars (even with filling in retro style) are displayed at the booth.

Fashion.at moved to the next stage and heard the end of the talk of philosopher Konrad Paul Liessmann (co-author of 'Der werfe den ersten Stein') speaking about the new fashion which spreads even in academic circles: The restriction of opinion and limitation of discourses about topics that could hurt.

The next author at the stage was painter, singer & songwriter, poet Arik Brauer who introduced into his new book 'A Jud und keck a no' with several jokes which confronted the audience in a humorous way with serious topics.

At the last stage where Fashion.at came along, Michaela Lindinger (curator at Wien Museum and specialist in women's history and fashion) spoke about her book 'Hedy Lamarr'; the Hollywood actress was born in Vienna, known in her time in US as 'most beautiful woman of the world' and received as inventor of the signal spreading technology Frequency-Hopping in our days the nickname 'Mrs. Bluetooth'.

Fashion.at finished the interesting book tour at the booth of Reclam and bought there the calendar 2020 'Berühmte Frauen' (translated 'Prominent Women') with Helen Mirren on the cover.
