Austrian jewelers Petra Zimmermann and Izabella Petrut are two of thirteen nominated artists for the Eligius-Award 2019; exhibited at MAK Vienna, Kunst im Traklhaus Salzburg and at Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim

Petra Zimmermann (finished her studies at the University of Applied Arts Vienna) and Izabella Petrut (currently works on her dissertation at Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, made her Master of Fine and Decorative Arts at the University of Art and Design in Cluj Napoca, Romania) are two of thirteen nominated jewelry artists of this year's Eligius-Award. Four of the thirteen nominated artists are from the art-fashion-design school 'KunstModeDesign Herbststrasse' in Vienna (posting), inclusively Petra Zimmermann who is one of the school's teachers.

The award is named after Saint Eligius, patron of goldsmiths and metalworkers. Petra Zimmermann's work such as the necklace with the Latin phrase 'vanitas vanitatum et omnia vanitas' (picture below left) and Izabella Petrut's series 'A Love Story' knotted from shoelaces and parts of rollerblades convinced the jury consisting of Giampaolo Babetto (Italian jewelry artist), Cornelie Holzach (Director of Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim), and Anne-Katrin Rossberg (curator of the MAK Museum metal collection and Wiener Werkstätte archive). Together with jewelry by further eleven nominated artists - Andrea Auer, Gunda Maria Cancola, Veresa Eybl, Andrea MAXA Halmschlager, Paul Iby, Beatrix Kaufmann, Theresa Macourek, Martina Mühlfellner, Viktoria Münzker, Konstanze Prechtl, and Birgit Schlarmann, the items will be on view from 6 until 24 March at MAK (Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art) in Vienna. It's announced that the jury will meet again in Vienna for the selection of the Eligius-Award 2019 winner who will receive the prize on 16 May at the Kunst im Traklhaus in Salzburg where the exhibition is continued from 17 May until 6 July; in autumn, it will travel to Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim in Germany.

The items will be on view at the upcoming exhibitions of the Eligius-Award 2019 in Vienna and Salzburg. The Eligius-Award is a collaborative initiative of MAK Vienna and Kunst im Traklhaus Salzburg. The award was founded by the Austrian federal state Salzburg in 2005 and honors the goldsmith tradition of the city of Salzburg.
