Fashion.at preview of the 'Long Night of Museums' program for design, fashion, art and craft exhibitions

It's rainy and cold in Vienna right now, with a crisp October breeze. The best weather for visiting museums and events like tomorrow's 'Lange Nacht der Museen', the 'Long Night of Museums', initiated by the Austrian public broadcaster ORF more than 20 years ago in 2000. The museum night takes place every year nationwide in the nine federal states of Austria. In 2024, around 660 cultural institutions will participate. Fashion.at looked closer at the program where to find fashion and design exhibitions among the 121 museums in Vienna that can be visited on October 5 from 6 p.m. with an all-in-one ticket for 17,- Euro.

The destinations in Vienna are listed on langenacht.orf.at. Some of them have been mentioned recently on Fashion.at in articles about interesting exhibitions. By clicking on the preview of a selected destination, the next page with more information is published, e.g. in the case of the 'MAK - Museum of Applied Arts' with an overview of the current exhibitions, among them 'AUT Now: 100 x Austrian Design for the 21st Century', which opened on September 17th (article) and can be visited tomorrow, October 5th from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. during the ORF Long Night of Museums. Another interesting destination is the Kunsthalle Wien, where you can see the work of the artist Aleksandra Domanovic, which was developed from science and technology with a focus on robotics, media, gender and identity (article).

An exhibition bringing together fashion and art is on display at the Mode Wien museum, as announced on langenacht.orf.at. The guild house of the Viennese tailors and artisans opens its doors for the visit of the exhibition 'Symbiosis'.

Another arts and crafts related event information arrived at Fashion.at today. In the Bassano-Saal of the Kunsthistorisches Museum at Maria-Theresien-Platz, Viennese artisans will present their skills in workshop-like live demonstrations. By the way: Maria-Theresien-Platz is the central point for getting information including printed booklets of the Lange Nacht der Museen; the booklets will make it easier to navigate through the night for those who prefer printed material over the digital information provided on the website.
The event at the Bassano Hall will offer visitors the opportunity to discover the diversity of Viennese craftsmanship and local artisans, such as Yogesh Parfums, known for the creation of bespoke perfumes (article), or artist and jewelry designer Jiayi Zhang, who will demonstrate a traditional Chinese embroidery technique. The press release quotes Maria Neumann, head of the Viennese Trade & Crafts sector, who emphasizes the unique insights into both historical and contemporary techniques that visitors will experience. The aim of the event is to show the vibrant connection between creativity, tradition, and innovation in Viennese arts and crafts.

In the Bassano Hall various artisans will be showcased, including:

  • Forum Goldschmiede GmbH: Showcasing handcrafted jewelry.
  • Glas Exklusiv: Presenting intricate glass art.
  • HolzHandWerk Wien: Offering hands-on carpentry experiences.
  • Jiayi Zhang: Demonstrating double-sided silk embroidery.
  • Kupferdach Production: Merging upcycling with steampunk jewelry. Claudia Maitz: Reviving the art of wig making.
  • Andreas Denner: Displaying unique painting techniques. Richard Kappeller: Crafting high-quality knives.
  • Yogesh Parfums: Creating bespoke fragrances.
