Just yesterday, Fashion.at published an article about jewelry inspired by forestry and Austrian traditional costumes with a short excursus on the costumes that originate from the work and festive wear of farmers in the alpine regions of Central Europe (article). Today Fashion.at randomly looked through the latest press releases of the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024 and came across the announcement of the exhibition 'Green. Art with Nature', which addresses from an artistic perspective the challenges such as sustainability and climate change faced by today's farmers and foresters. The exhibition was developed in the context of the 'Microfarmers' conference organized by the Austrian Association of Small Farmers and Mountain Farmers. The conference, focusing on future strategies for farmers, will take place on October 20 at FAST - Forestry Training Center Traunkirchen (details at https://www.salzkammergut-2024.at/en/projekte/microfarmers-conference-2/). About two weeks before the conference, the exhibition 'Green. Art with Nature', part of the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024, opens on October 4 and will be on view from October 5 to November 16 at the Temporäre Galerie in Altmünster am Traunsee (details at https://www.salzkammergut-2024.at/en/projekte/green-2/). The exhibition explores humanity's relationship with nature through works by artists such as Böhler & Orendt, whose installation 'Give us, Dear' metaphorically critiques human exploitation of nature. Their work, which depicts parasitic creatures extracting resources from a giant monster, symbolizes the environmental damage caused by unchecked economic and industrial activity. The broader theme of the exhibition aligns with the 'Microfarmers' conference held in conjunction with the exhibition. The conference brings together farmers, cultural workers, and citizens to discuss sustainable agriculture, food production, and environmental responsibility. It emphasizes the importance of small-scale agriculture in addressing current environmental and social crises, and fosters a dialogue aimed at developing solutions to support the future of rural farming communities. This partnership between the art exhibition and the conference highlights the interconnectedness of art, agriculture, and the environment, and underscores the role of creative expression in addressing pressing global challenges related to sustainability and climate change. Together, they present a holistic perspective on the relationship between human activity and the natural world, and advocate for environmental responsibility and the resilience of small-scale agriculture. The sculptural installation is one of the works on display in the exhibition 'Green. Art with Nature', on view from October 5 to November 16 at the Temporäre Galerie in Altmünster am Traunsee, Upper Austria. |
