What are ongoing future themes, even in the currently challenging times? Climate issues and comfort of transport, such as addressed by car sharing services

Rumors about the extension of the lockdown dominated news reports on TV and print in the last days in Austria. Today, the government made it official. The new plan is to postpone the end of the lockdown from 24th January to 8th February for museums, stores, schools... respectively to the end of February for gastronomy or hotels. Mobility is currently not an important topic in the media. What's perhaps a fault as climate issues and the comfort of transport are ongoing future themes which shouldn't be neglected - even when times are currently extraordinarily challenging. The pandemic has done enough damage. It's time to go on further in the development of practical and environmentally friendly solutions such as sustainable mobility in metropolitan cities.

Fiat for example presented last year the fully electric 500 with interpretations by Giorgio Armani, Bvlgari, Kartell (article). On 15 January this year, FCA Bank (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) and its subsidiary, the mobility solutions company Leasys launched the car sharing service for renting the electric 'Nuove FIAT 500' via go.leasys.com in Turin. The rates start with the annual registration for 19.99 Euro which includes 2 hours car usage; the monthly fee of 19.99 Euro includes 2 hours mobility; every more minute costs 0.29 Euro up to the maximum of 43.5 Euro which is the price for renting the car the full day. Parking in Turin is free of charge and even restricted-traffic areas are accessible as the 500 counts to the zero-emission vehicles.

The fleet in Turin consists currently of 300 cars. The next four European cities where the car service will be available from 2021 are Milan and Rome (Italy), Valencia (Spain) and Lyon (France). In sum, around 2000 vehicles are expected to be part of the fleet of the car sharing service at the end of the year.
