#Design #art: Sigmund Freud's 'Totem and Taboo' as a metaphor for an exhibition

From 1 October until 20 November 2011, the 'freiraum quartier21' at the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna presents works which are developed between art and design under the title 'Totem und Tabu', derived from Sigmund Freud's text about 'family'. The curator group WAASO (founded 2010, dedicated to the dialogue between design and art) uses the text as a metaphor for the relationship of design and art - two fields which are very familiar but have fear of contacts.

More than 20 artists/designers from all over the world, such as the Austrian born (1962), in New York living graphic designer and artist Stefan Sagmeister (album covers for Lou Reed, the Rolling Stones, David Byrne...) are part of the show. Details on totemandtaboo.net.

The exhibition opens on the same day like the Vienna Design Week on 30 September 2011.
