Insight into the Viennese textile atelier of Domotex Carpet Design Award 2019 winner 'Beate von Harten'

Fashion.at was invited by textile artist Beate von Harten to the presentation of the award winning 'Create & Connect: The Chameleon Carpet' at the artist's eponymous atelier at Stiftgasse 33 in Vienna where textile designs are created, restoration, conservation works are done, and weaving courses are held together with her daughter Celina von Harten. In mid-January this year, the mother-daughter team received the Domotex Carpet Design Award 2019 in the category 'Best Studio Artist Design' (article). Fashion.at took the chance and spoke with Celina von Harten - since eight years active at the atelier, about the approach to the design of carpets such as the one on view on this page. The title of the carpet is 'Linen Water' and was developed from impressions of the beach and water. The inspiring photo-collage for the carpet is on view right above the mirror. On view are sand, stones, waves, sea spray, and various blues of the ocean. The collage reflects impressions of times of relaxing at the sea - and actually this emotion is evoked when looking at the carpet. The gradient color design reaches from earthy hues to the blues of water and sky. It's harmoniously grounded and watery, airy at once. Celina von Harten loves to work with linen, a very durable material for carpets. The 'Linen Water' rug is one of a series. Another one is named 'Red Sea' and fills the atmosphere with energizing orange and red. It's just like its radiance affects the senses with a warm breeze.

The topic 'nature' is central at the art-design of 'Beate von Harten' and one of the reasons why the atelier's work convinced the jury at Domotex. The award-winning 'Create & Connect: The Chameleon Carpet' represents the diversity of the landscapes of earth's continents and islands (article).
