MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA
spring/summer 2010

Remember me

On 2nd October 2009, Paris headquartered Maison Martin Margiela by the Belgium designer Martin Margiela presented the new womenswear spring/summer 2010 during the Paris Fashion Week.

fig.: In the last years, the shoulders are a returning theme at Martin Margiela. For spring/summer 2010, the shoulders are growing vertical and raise on this way the impression of the length of the body. Super maxi combined with ultra mini is another signature in this collection.

Swimsuits, oversize tees and leather boots are covered in coloured paper inspired by Post-it notes. Paper is a material that can be found through the collection. The post-it idea - to remember something or somebody - is integrated into the catwalk scenery too: little bits detach themselves down the catwalk leaving traces where models have passed.

On tees, swimsuits and boots, Martin Margiela has printed travel poster photos, with fragments of paper fluttering off those too. Martin Margiela's main post-it colours are turquoise and pink, the poster prints show Caribbean and Japanese cherry trees.

The screendesign of the website maisonmartinmargiela.com makes you think you are on the working place of somebody's computer with the standard minimal design showing folders inclusive information about last update and folder sizes. In the 'news'-folder, two new products are announced: the special edition of the 'Ruby' helmet by the design studio for safety accessories for people on the move, Ateliers Ruby in cooperation with Maison Martin Margiela in white/black and the book 'Maison Martin Margiela' by Maison Martin Margiela (Rizzoli, release end of October 2009). A movie browses you through the world of Martin Margiela to show you what inspires him and what's his contribution to our fashion culture. The movie ends with the browsing hand posting a message... www.maisonmartinmargiela.com

Even on the hair and makeup for Martin Margiela's catwalk show you will find paper. Inge Grognard and the M.A.C PRO team have used paper fragments printed with facial details and applied them to the eye contour area. Hair stylist Tomohiro Ohashi has interwoven loose hair with bands of scotch.

Martin Margiela has studied at the Royale Academy of Fine Art Fashion Department in Antwerp, Belgium. Before starting his own label in 1988, he was design assistant at Jean Paul Gaultier, Paris fashionoffice.org/who/margiela.htm.
