The Clothing of a Modern Nomad
Gróa, the new label by Danish designer Gro Abrahamsson, presents from July until October 2008 the new summer collection at international fairs around the world such as at the LA Fashion Week from 17 – 21 October 2008.
During 4 months in 2008 the team of Gróa present their new collection around the world: Modefabriek, Amsterdam, July; A-Fair, Antwerp, August; CPH Vision, Copenhagen, August; CALA, San Francisco, September; D&A, New York, September; Coterie, New York, September; LA Fashion Week, October 2008.
The designer and creative director Gro Abrahamsson was inspired for the collection by the "modern nomad", who is "... always in motion finding new places to explore. From New York or Berlin to the Arabian Desert and other far-away places, she discovers new ways of expressing herself, and yet she stays true to her own identity and tradition. She is on a journey filled with contrasts, which she faces with playful tranquillity. ..."
The designer selects for the female nomad elements from distant places which results in an aesthetic of contrasts: you will find
chic tailoring vs. soft pleating and draping details; fine cottons and linen vs. coated canvas; sophisticated vs. raw.
For the simple voluminous and oversized features combined with slim legged pants and soft draping and pleating in dresses, tops (such as on the photo above), the designer has chosen various shades of summer white, caramel, fruity peach, raspberry, fresh lavender, sky blue, jade, and a touch of black for linen, fine cotton, waxed canvas (the pant on the picture below), white washed denim, piece-dyed silks and cotton, soft modal jersey.
