MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA
fall/winter 2010/11

A collection created by a team

On 6 March 2010, Maison Martin Margiela has shown the women's wear fall/winter 2010/11 collection during Paris Fashion Week. Since December 2009, a design team creates the new collections by following the ideas of the founder, Belgian Martin Margiela at Maison Martin Margiela. The label is co-owned by Renzo Rosso, founder of Diesel. At this time, there is no new creative director announced and it seems as if the creative design-team-work concept is part of the label's program.

Probably this team-work concept fits properly to the fashion of Martin Margiela.

The artistic direction of the women's collection fall/winter 2010/11 is in the hands of around 28 creative team members such as Suzy Menkes published in an article at the New York Times. This team also contributed the music to the 'Maison Martin Margiela FW2010/11' show on 6 March in Paris.

For fall/winter 2010/11, the team translates men's garderobe into female pieces like trousers that appear below the hip and above the knees like skirts until they are tailored as pants again; or pants that have such a wide stand-away waist as if the designers wanted to mark out that women have more rounds.

fig: Iconic 50ies men's motor cycle inspired Python jacket with skirt/pants by Maison Martin Margiela, fall/winter 2010/11; presented on 6 March 2010 at the Fashion Week in Paris. Hair: Tomohiro Ohashi, makeup: Hannah Murray and the M.A.C PRO team, makeup provided by M.A.C Cosmetics.

The 'Wild Femme' appeal of this collection is enhanced by the makeup from Hannah Murray and the M.A.C PRO team. The red lipstick colors the skin around the lips too. You can imagine that the model is just coming from backstage where she has wildly kissed a man - or a woman. Or has the model just...? Some of the models are wearing huge tribal costume-alike Tanuki fur hats with cape-extensions. Tanukis are animals that are even landing in Japanese soups.
