Preview: International Women's Day 2014

Today on Valentine's Day, Fashionoffice looked through upcoming remarkable days and found Women's Day which is celebrated each year on 8th March around the world. This year's theme by the United Nations is 'Inspiring Change'.

Vienna's history museum 'Wien Museum' (art, fashion, modern culture) collected on occasion of the International Woman's Day around 100 items for giving insights into the life of women such as with photos of cycling women from the turn of the 19/20th century (image below) or the changing of a street sign. Last mentioned was and is a theme in Vienna as the awareness for achievements of women grow when they are kept in mind which can be done by naming streets after exceptional women from art, politics, economics, etc. Well - at the photo above, the name 'März' is not gender specific; the word means 'march' and remembers the March Revolution of 1848 in Vienna - revolutions happened during that year in whole Europe - where men and women fought for the change of society and for a better future. In the modified version (the number of the district is not original), the street sign depicted at Annegang's photo 'March 8 Street' reminds that Women's Day is on 8th March - and traditionally, women are marching on streets on that day.

Wien Museum explores with the exhibited art works, objects and photos definitions of femaleness and stereotypes. The exhibition 'Woman's Stuff' opened already on 30 January and will be on view until 23 March 2014.
