He uses only natural fibres like wool, linen, silk and cotton, and draws the inspiration for his fabric designs directly from nature and from textile-working techniques. The forms, structures and colours of his clothing designs are likewise invariably related to nature. He dislikes the idea of passing trends in line and colour and the main feature in his easy-to-wear garments is the fabric. This approach has won Lehl enormous popularity in Japan, where his work is sold through 44 dedicated retail outlets. Following more limited presentations in Germany and Japan, this is the first opportunity for the public to encounter the work of Jürgen Lehl in a major exhibition encompassing numerous examples of his designs.
