The Magic Flute from the view of the cultural activist Sophiline Cheam Shapiro. The pioneering choreographer Sophiline Cheam Shapiro, born 1967, lives between California and Phnom Penh. She reflects her own life experience of rebuilding a new society. The artist creates with the "revisited" Magic Flute a ballet for the new era with symbols of her culture: the flying women of the Cambodian cosmology. The dancers shimmer in their costumes of gold leaf. They transform themselves into Apsaras, divine beings, angels. Every gesture of them is an act of forgiveness. ... next>>>
