From the MQ Vienna Fashion Week runway directly to the international shop 'Meisterstrasse Handmade': A closer look at the nature and culture related collections of designers from Thailand

After the 'THAIdentity Night' shows on 15 September at the MQ Vienna Fashion Week, the Director of the Office of Commercial Affairs (DITP), Royal Thai Embassy Vienna, Ms. Onanood Phadoongvithee invited on 16 and 17 September to the presentation of fashion items which are now available at the international craftsmanship specialist platform 'Meisterstrasse Handmade'. Fashion.at visited the showroom of Meisterstrasse Handmade for a closer look at the collections of young designers like Marionsiam, Kram Phon, or Riva. The collections have one in common: A strong relation to nature and the culture of Thailand.

The designers of the label 'Kram Phon', the duo Wucharaphon Kampromma and Rattapol Thongdee are masters of embroideries and upcycling. The unisex coat with figurative plants stitched with seeds on recycled cotton was one of the highlights on the MQ Vienna Fashion Week runway (picture in the middle, left). A poetic work about the cycle of life!

Poetry is the source of the collection by 'Marionsiam' designer Tayida Ounburanawan who developed the women's wear and for the first time men's wear and unisex pieces on inspiration of the historical novel 'Thawiphop' about a woman on a thrilling time travel for defending her country from colonization who falls in love with a man. In the romantic love story, Thailand's flower of love, the crown flower called 'Dok Rak' (the word 'rak' means 'love') plays a role. At the collection, dok rak-elements decorate for example the shoulder straps of a top (on view at the image left).

Siamese cats are the playful models of the new prototype bags by designer Frank Weeneggsinn for his label 'Riva'. The cat bags are named after the Russian doll Matryoshka as the bags can be placed inside another. The smaller one presented on this day had one blue and one yellow eye. Director of the Office of Commercial Affairs Onanood Phadoongvithee and designer Frank Weeneggsinn wore pieces from the new Riva SS2023 'The Novel District' collection made from recycled polyester fabrics with sculptural 3-D surfaces developed with smocking technique.
