The Vienna Opera Ball presented the three winners of the Couture Salon dress design competition

A month ago, the jury of this year's Couture Salon of the Vienna Opera Ball was presented with the announcement that three winners would be selected from thirty designers who participated in the competition to design ball gowns (article). Today, the names of the winners were revealed in a press release. Prior to the Vienna Opera Ball on February 8, 2024, the gowns created by the three winners for the principal dancers of the Vienna State Ballet will be shown on January 17 at the Couture Salon in the Hotel Bristol with the support of shoe retailer Humanic and beauty brand Lancôme.

The jury, chaired by designer Thang de Hoo and including actress Lilian Klebow and deputy ballet director Louisa Rachedi, selected Alexandra Gogolok-Nagl from Vienna, Maiken Kloser from Vorarlberg and Marlen Sabetzer from Styria. The master tailor Alexandra Gogolok-Nagl can look back on 25 years of experience in the production of gowns for Opera Balls, Maiken Kloser, who founded her label Maiken K in 2014 during her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, works from her studio in Hohenems for stage productions such as at the Volksoper and for clients from the worlds of politics, art and culture, and Marlen Sabetzer, originally from St. Peter im Sulmtal in Styria, who now lives and works in Vienna, has made a name for herself with her label MarS-Anfertigung, especially through her creative approach to upcycling, sustainable production and unique designs.

Over the next five weeks, the designers will create bespoke costumes for Vienna State Ballet dancers Ioanna Avraam, Olga Esina, Hyo-Jung Kang, Kiyoka Hashimoto, Ketevan Papava, Liudmila Konovalova, Claudine Schoch, Elena Bottaro, Sonia Dvoráak and Aleksandra Liashenko.

In the press release, jury chairman Thang de Hoo said he was very pleased with the selection of the three designers. He also mentioned the immense benefits of working with the three colleagues, emphasizing the exchange of professional knowledge and mutual respect among them. He went on to say that as a united Couture Salon-dream team they would make a strong statement for Austrian design at the Vienna Opera Ball.
