Pastries as research objects: Findings about the most popular Austrian pastries and the listing of the country's favorite Faschingskrapfen shops

Currently, pastries are a big theme in Austria. It's fasching (carnival) time and pastries like Faschingskrapfen (article) count to the traditional sweets of the season before the fasting period (Lent) starts on Ash Wednesday 17 February. APA Comm, the communication services provider of the Austrian Press Agency (APA), released recently the latest online research findings about the mentioning of typical Austrian pastries on Instagram by counting the amount of posted hashtags for example #Sachertorte. The definition of more than 115 'Austrian pastries, desserts' was derived from recipe collections of common cookbooks and from two online cookbooks with the greatest reach in Austria. Christmas cookies, roasters and compotes were excluded from the analysis.

Another pastry-related research happens currently on the website of the culinary magazine Falstaff. Falstaff asked in a first step for nominations of the best Faschingskrapfen producers or stores, pastry shops. From around 3000 entries, the most frequently mentioned are now published at falstaff.at/nd/voting-die-beliebtesten-faschingskrapfen/ where users can find and vote for the best Faschingskrapfen sources in the categories supermarkets or pastry shops, bakeries,... by federal state (Vienna, Burgenland,...).
