Museum tip for kids & families in Vienna: Starting a tour through the city's culture and history at Theodor Herzl's bicycle exhibited at the Jewish Museum

Theodor Herzl, journalist, writer, author of the book 'The Jewish State' (published 1896), lived from 1860 to 1904 and is known as the spiritual father of the State of Israel. His bicycle with the name Victoria Blitz (produced in the 1890s by Opel) is placed prominently at the permanent exhibition of the Jewish Museum Vienna at Dorotheergasse. Several years ago in 2016, the bicycle inspired the making of a children's book by the authors director of the Jewish Museum Danielle Spera and cultural mediator Hannah Landsmann with illustrations by Roland Plachy for the interactive experience of culture history. The coloring and activities book was created to be used during the visit of the permanent exhibition 'Our City! Jewish Vienna - Then To Now' which can be (pre-)visited virtually via Google Arts & Culture where closer information about Theodor Herzl, his bicycle and the cycling boom in Vienna is published. Find details about the exhibition and virtual tour at jmw.at/en/exhibitions/our-city-jewish-vienna-then-now.
