Indoor pool, spa for holistic environment experience: The 'Paracelsus Bad & Kurhaus' won the Austrian State Prize in Architecture and Sustainability 2021 for its energy efficient construction and impressive organic design

Today, the government announced the end of the lockdown for people who are vaccinated or recovered on 12 December. Which means that on Monday, 13 December hotels, gastronomy, stores, museums, fitness studios, spas and baths are allowed to be visited again. Some days left to plan a journey or holidays. Fashion.at searched on occasion of the new old freedom for culture trip destinations and found the media release about the Austrian State Prizes in Architecture and Sustainability 2021 which were handed out yesterday on 6 December by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology. One of the four winners, the public bath and spa 'Paracelsus Bad & Kurhaus' with an impressive architecture which evokes the impression to be born out of its surroundings, shaped like a living entity from water and light, is located in the city of Salzburg. Recently, Fashion.at published an article about the Advent market season which re-starts after the end of the lockdown on 13 December (fast checked today on the website of the Salzburger Christkindlmarkt).
For Viennese, Salzburg is a great destination for a short trip over two or three days to visit museums, for shopping, culinary and for recreation such as possible at the public bath and therapeutic treatment area 'Paracelsus Bad & Kurhaus' which opened in October 2019 in the architecture by the Vienna-based Finnish-Austrian architecture office BERGER+PARKKINEN (founded by Tiina Parkkinen and Alfred Berger, details). Yesterday, the architects won for the energy efficient and ecological quality construction of the building the Austrian State Prize in the category 'Architecture and Sustainability' which focuses under Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler on exceptional achievements in the field of sustainable construction and renovation.

In the statement concerning the project 'Paracelsus Bad & Kurhaus' on the climate ministry's website bmk.gv.at, the organic design and the energy-saving heating system are explicitly mentioned (translated by Fashion.at, original text below): "The swimming area is supplied with plenty of daylight via the organically shaped ceiling and the light dome above the pool . Thanks to district heating, heat pumps, in-house waste heat and photovoltaics on the roof, the special construction uses significantly less energy than comparable projects in Austria."

Architect Tiina Parkkinen states at berger-parkkinen.com/en/paracelsus-bad-kurhaus where details of the project 'Paracelsus Bad & Kurhaus' and the ideas of the architects are presented: "In our projects, references to the built environment, natural surroundings and the social context are extremely important."
