Austrian Post celebrates the origin of Bambi on the occasion of the iconic character's 100th anniversary

Austria is the origin of a few internationally known icons of the entertainment industry. Bambi is one of them.

Three years ago, the Wien Museum presented the work and life of the author of Bambi, Felix Salten, in the exhibition 'Beyond Bambi. Felix Salten and The Discovery Of Viennese Modernism' (article). Now, the country's postal service Austrian Post (Österreichische Post) celebrates the 100th anniversary of the publication of 'Bambi. A Life in the Woods' with its own stamp '100 Jahre Bambi', created by Lower Austria-based graphic designer and advertising agency founder Marion Füllerer. The stamp was released these days in an edition of 300,000 and is available at post offices and on https://www.post.at/en/p/z/commemorative-stamp-september-bambi.

'Bambi' by Felix Salten originally appeared as a serialized story for the 'Neue Freie Presse' in 1922 and was published as a novel about a roe fawn in 1923. Disney adapted it into a 1942 animated film, in which Bambi was portrayed as a white-tailed deer fawn native to America.

Patricia Liebermann, the Head of Philately at Österreichische Post AG, stated in a press release about the launch of the new highlight for philately collectors that we all know the fawn Bambi, but are less familiar with the character's origins in Austria.
