Vienna Contemporary art fair invites to explore identity and engagement in a globalized world, focusing on issues such as digitalization and gender

From tomorrow, 7th until 10th September, more than 150 artists will be presented by 61 galleries from 20 countries at the Austrian art fair Vienna Contemporary. Like last year, the international art fair will take place in the palace-like former spa pavilion 'Kursalon' in the Stadtpark. For 2023, the Vienna Contemporary curators have programmed talks, discussions and tours focusing on the exploration of identity and engagement.

The series of talks kicked off today, one day before the official opening, with the discussion 'Political Homelessness and Contemporary Citizenship', which questioned belonging in today's Europe with prominent speakers such as Bosnian-born Austrian lawyer, politician, and since 2020 Minister of Justice of the Republic of Austria, Alma Zadic.
On September 9, design specialists such as Zach Stubenvoll, Head of Brand Design at Meta, and designer Stefan Sagmeister will provide an outlook on the impact of new digital spaces on cultural production, with a focus on the design of the digital environment and engagement, such as the freedom to enable co-creation.
The highlight on 10 September is a discussion with the title 'Queer in Art' about queer art under the aspect of community engagement and collecting. 'Queer in Art' will be moderated by Michael Kaufmann, co-founder and curator of Queer Art Spaces Vienna and director of the Vienna gallery Galerie Ernst Hilger, which is one of the fair's participants.

The program at https://www.viennacontemporary.at/ lists events in chronological order and can be filtered at the calendar by category, such as 'Guided Tours' with events like 'The Queer Gaze' with drag queen Lady Nutjob, artist and student at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, who guides through the exhibiting galleries, or the guided tour 'The Future is Female', announced to sharpen the eye for female positions in art.
