GEN ART / NOKIA FALL 2001

Gen Art showcases 4 designers in its debut show at 7th on Sixth’s Fashion Week

- Gen Art announced that it will feature four fashion designers at its premier runway show at 7th on Sixth’s Fashion Week this February. The Gen Art/ Nokia Fall 2001 show will feature four of Gen Art’s promising alumni: All Saints by Stuart Trevor, Jared Gold, Paige Novick and Trosman-Churba. Each designer will show approximately 20 looks from their fall/winter 2001 collections in the Tent at Bryant Park on Friday, February 9th at 7 pm.

All four designers began their relationships with Gen Art when they were selected from among stiff competition to participate in Gen Art’s Fresh Faces In Fashion, the annual runway event that showcases rising design talent, providing a forum for recognition within the fashion industry. Now Stuart Trevor (London), Jared Gold (Los Angeles), Paige Novick (New York) and Trosman-Churba (Argentina), who have all received acclaim for their designs and are rapidly expanding their businesses, reunite with Gen Art to showcase their collections at 7th on Sixth’s General Motors Fashion Week.

As the premier organization that showcases and supports new fashion design talent, this new seasonal showcase represents Gen Arts commitment to supporting the best, emerging design talent. The show stands apart from other fashion week group shows because it is a component of a year-round mission to promote and cultivate a new generation of fashion designers. All Saints by Stuart Trevor (Gen Art Alumnus, 1997)

Since its inception in 1995, Stuart Trevor has rapidly expanded All Saints from a specialized menswear collection featuring unusual design detailing and exclusively produced fabrics, to both mens and womens collections created to bridge the gap between mass produced fashion labels and high end designers. With 4 boutiques in the London area and showrooms in London, New York, Tokyo and Osaka, All Saints is growing to be one of the most successful and innovative British designer brands.

Paige Novick (Gen Art Alumnus, 1996) Paige Novick’s collections celebrate femininity with a modern, understated sensibility. What began in 1994 as innovative hair accessories, has expanded into a global market of accessories, handbags and ready-to-wear that combines designer fashion with quality and accessibility. Paige, who is best known for her use of color and her marriage of the familiar with the unexpected, adheres to a loose formula of one part vintage, one part luxury, one part rock n’ roll. Paige Novick is available at Henri Bendels, Saks Fifth Avenue, Intermix, Joyce and Hong Kong.

Trosman – Churba (Gen Art Alumnus, 2000) >From a place where elements such as feathers, plants and photographs are married with paint and textiles, Argentinian designers Jessica Trosman and Martin Churba develop their unique brand of what they call “high and low couture” (alta y baja costura). Combining a wide variety of materials and processes, their vision is to create art for everyday life that transmits messages, images and memories via cutting edge textiles. In April 2000, Trosman and Churba were awarded the “Silver Scissors Award” for best designer in Argentina. The Spring 2001 line is currently available at Barneys New York, Hedra Prue in NYC and Curve in L.A. Jared Gold (Gen Art Alumnus, 2000)

L.A. based designer Jared Gold blends design elements such as silkscreen prints and animal and star-shaped appliqués into enchanting couture that combines beauty with a touch of surprise. Jared began making special items for Fred Segal Women’s department when he worked there as a salesperson and ultimately left the store to put all efforts into designing. He launched his men’s collection in 1999 and was then commissioned to design a collection for the Italian manufacturing firm Torelli Inc, who also produce Marni. Gold will show womenswear and menswear at the February show. Jared Gold is available at Barneys NY, Fred Segal, Curve, Steven Alan, Browns Focus and Aldo Torelli.

In addition to the presenting sponsor Nokia, the event is also being supported by 5S, John Paul Mitchell Systems, Mademoiselle, Evian Natural Spring Water and Bass Ale. Models for the show are being provided courtesy of IMG Models, Next Model Management, Wilhelmina Models and New York Model Management. Gen Art is the nation’s largest not-for-profit organization dedicated to showcasing the work of talented emerging visual artists, filmmakers and fashion designers as well as educating the public about these disciplines. Founded in 1995, Gen Art has helped launch the careers of hundreds of artists through premiere events in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
