From 6 to 8 September, the installation of inflatables from the shooting of photographer, filmmaker Thibaut Grevet for the 'Airbag Concept' collection by Mercedes-Benz X Heron Preston will be exhibited at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week during Berlin Fashion Week. MBFW Berlin focuses this year along to fashion films and shows in hybrid form (on site and livestream) of brands like Marc Cain or design labels such as Austrian Rebekka Ručtz or German Kilian Kerner on talks - on 7 September (accessible via livestream) about 'Rights: Human Rights and the Rights of Nature' with professionals like Fashion Revolution co-founder Carry Somers and on 8 September the talk (on-site and livestream) with researchers from the fields technology and sustainable innovation about 'Revolution: Will Technology Save Us?'.
The 'Airbag Concept' collection was developed in collaboration between the car brand Mercedes-Benz and the designer known for his focus on sustainability and zero waste Heron Preston (finished his studies at Parsons School of Design in New York City, collaborated with Nike, Kanye West, Virgil Abloh's Off-White,... ) from the idea to pay tribute to the 50th respectively 40th anniversary of the life-saving technology of airbags and the reuse of the material in Heron Preston's workwear inspired style for literally 'working' clothes: The items for men and women have the ability to inflate and deflate.
50 years ago in October 1971, the airbag was first patented. Until it was used successfully for passenger cars, it lasted one more decade. Mercedes-Benz was the first car manufacturer to integrate the airbag in passenger cars 40 years ago in 1981.
