MKG Hamburg exhibits 'Amateur Photography. From Bauhaus to Instagram' with views on rules, society,...

The MKG Hamburg exhibition 'Amateur Photography. From Bauhaus to Instagram' (3 October 2019 - 12 January 2020) pays tribute to '100 Years Bauhaus' by referencing the German school of arts, architecture & design, as well as the creative power of being non-miseducated, and democracy & free speech via digital media.

The upcoming exhibition about amateur photographers from times of Bauhaus up to nowadays' social media postings is not only about the love (the word amateur originates from the Latin word for 'love') to photography - it's about the political impact of amateur respectively non-professionally taken photos on the change of society. The press release is a very detailed, meticulously written introduction into the theme. It shows how the research of the curators on universal structures of non-professional photography followed the development of the technology of devices affordable for larger groups in the early 20th century to images captured easily and for low costs with the smartphone for the publication online. The findings about the universal structures are summarized under the exhibition chapter 'The own life-reality' where several examples for the amateurs' depictions of 'hobbies', 'family', 'journeys', 'identity and body',... over the last 100 years will be on show. The two other chapters of 'Amateur Photography. From Bauhaus to Instagram' are 'Amateurs at the Bauhaus - against all rules' and 'Change society!'
