Europe's second-oldest porcelain manufactory Augarten Porzellanmanufaktur Wien presents signature Viennese tableware with Martina Hohenlohe, a representative of the Austrian way of life

Ask an Austrian - or even a large language-model chatbot - to name two signature tableware designs, one in ceramic and one in porcelain, and the answers are likely to be the green flamed design from Gmundner Keramik and the 'Vienna Rose' (or Viennese Rose) creation from Augarten Porzellanmanufaktur Wien. The latter is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a campaign focusing on the use of the sets featuring the famous 1920s design. The décor was designed by the company's employees and presented to the public in 1924...

Fashion.at met Florentina Leitner at her MAK (Con)Temporary Showcase exhibition to talk about her work and how fashion can be used to raise awareness for environmental and social issues

One of the most interesting fashion-related exhibitions in Vienna at the moment is that of Florentina Leitner at the Geymüllerschlössel, a branch of the MAK Museum of Applied Arts. Fashion.at visited the opening of the retrospective, which highlights the work of the Austrian talent, who lives in Antwerp, Belgium. Director Lilli Hollein welcomed the guests in the romantic garden of the Biedermeier summer palace. People were relaxing in the green and on benches and chairs, children were playing, at a table women created flower artworks. Fashion.at went with designer Florentina Leitner to James Turrell's skyspace 'The Other Horizon' to talk about her work and how fashion can be used to raise awareness for environmental and social issues. The first question was why the designer chooses themes from film and literature, such as Jeanne d'Arc or the film about Marie Antoinette in the L'Autrichienne collection, rather than those that deal directly with current socio-political issues such as diversity, inclusion or resource conservation in relation to conscious fashion consumption...

E-bike selection tips from Austrian mobile operator and e-bike manufacturer Spusu, known for digital infrastructure activities and mechanical crafts

Bicycles, mobile networks, and fiber-optic infrastructure don't go together in the same company? At Austria's Spusu, they do, and the family-owned business has become an example of how new technologies and mechanical craftsmanship can be combined in one company. Spusu is the fastest growing mobile operator in the country. Since it was founded in 2015 by Franz Pichler, the company has continued to expand - including into other countries such as Italy and the United Kingdom. Franz Pichler gave a few tips for those interested in buying a new bike - without forgetting to point out how the e-bikes he produces meet his requirements. One of the tips concerns the capacity of the battery...

Fashion.at visited the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut and came across the traces of female resistance fighters

The cycling group started their tour and Fashion.at began to explore Bad Ischl until the presentation and discussion about the Willy-Fred bike tour project took place in a bookstore in Bad Ischl. Here in the bookstore, Fashion.at was able to meet Johannes Staudinger and talk to him to get more insight into the project. Staudinger is an enthusiastic cyclist and initiated the sport and culture association Velodrom in Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. Velodrom is also the association behind the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut project 'Tours by Willy -Fred. Fashion.at on Chiharu Shiota's 25-dress installation 'Where Are We Now?'

In this article, Fashion.at reports on the Chiharu Shiota exhibition and a bicycle tour on the tracks of resistance fighters. In both cases, women play a central role. In Chiharu Shiota's installation of 25 dresses in a tunnel, part of a more than 7.6-kilometer system of tunnels dug by male prisoners, who were politically persecuted and undesirable to the Nazi regime, under inhumane conditions that in many cases led to death, the question arises as to why the artist used women's clothing to commemorate the pain of these men - poorly fed and dressed too lightly for the around 8-degree temperatures in the tunnels they built for their tormentors to store, research and develop military weapons. "Why women's clothing?" was one of the questions that came from the audience...

Vienna Design Week builds on designs for dreams and energy- and resource-saving solutions for the future; some calls for participation are still open

Fashion.at spoke with representatives of ARE Austrian Real Estate, the masterminds behind the 'Village im Dritten', where this year's festival headquarters will be located. The focus of the conversation was the village's climate-friendly energy systems. The Vienna Design Week program interplays with the development of this part of the city. One of the examples of how this interplay will be realized is the initiative of the program partner Vienna Business Agency in the format 'Urban Food & Design', one of a total of eight formats presented by the director of the VDW, Gabriel Roland. In this format, the design of the lounge and hospitality area of the festival headquarters will incorporate the results of 'Biofabrique Vienna', which is currently presented at the Climate Biennale Vienna...

Fashion.at's selection of three workshops at the Impulstanz Festival: Unambitious Stripper, Young Girls Wanna Dance Their Spirit, and Countertechnique

Fashion.at browsed through the online program of the Vienna International Dance Festival 'Impulstanz' (July 11 - August 11), which today opened its digital ticket shop for more than 250 workshop and research projects. It's almost a tradition at Fashion.at to write a short article about the annual festival highlights with a selection of some of the courses. This time it took longer than usual to browse the site, because the texts are interesting and read like a compilation of philosophical thoughts about dance as an art form practiced in communities with reflections on the self and society. Fashion.at visited for example the pages with more information about the workshops 'Unambitious Stripper' by Isabel Lewis or 'Countertechnique' by Eva-Maria Schaller...
